Additional Information

General

This agent contains a trace amount of copper and it is effective against outdoor parasites – single-celled organisms causing parasite infections, and it is toxic for invertebrates. It is mostly purchased as a specific disinfection against Oodinium Spec. which is usually introduced together with live food from outdoor locations.

Piscinoodinum Pillularis covers bodies and fins of aquarium fish in the form of tiny white spots with a diameter up to 0.1 mm (unlike the “white-spot disease” Ichthyophthirius Multifiliis with white spots of up to 1 mm in diameter). The spots are more visible when we look at the fish at a slight angle to the front glass of the tank. It is necessary to properly identify the disease and not to mistake it with white or grey skin cloudiness; for these it is much more suitable to use “FMC” and longer periods of treatment.

Chemicals based on heavy metals are usually very toxic for lower organisms. However, this agent contains a low concentration which can positively remove Oodinium but it does not harm fish or plants. Oodinium usually disappears within a few hours after the application of the agent. Even after this treatment, it is recommended to change 1/2 of the aquarium water volume and to continue with a dose of “ACRIFLAVIN” or “METHYLENE BLUE”, which have an oxidizing effect and help the fish breathe when they have damaged gills. It is also advisable to add a dose of a Dajana PET pacifying agent called “ALOE GEL” to these antibacterial colouring agents. “ALOE GEL” has a beneficial influence upon injured fish skin.

We think it is important to tell our customers which kinds of fish are especially sensitive to copper agents: Tanichthys Albonubes (white cloud mountain fish), Ampularia Australis (snail), and it is generally recommended to proceed very carefully in the case of “bottom fish”. Also, most Sturisoma, Peckoltia, Ancistrus and Loricaria are not sufficiently domesticated and they do not bear the presence of metals very well.

INDICATION: Piscinoodium Pillilaris; Hydra.

APPLICATION:

Properly identify the presence of Oodinium; the presence of Hydra is unmistakeable.

Remove decoration gastropods (Ampularia, Marisa) and let them dry for several hours. They can shut their shells and remain out of water for several days. This does not apply to Oodinium or to Hydra.

Turn off filtration and light, provide intense air circulation.

Always observe the dosage specified in the instructions – DO NOT EXPERIMENT!

If some of the treated fish have breathing difficulties (gill infection), it is possible to add METHYLENE BLUE and monitor the fish. If the fish gather by the surface, change 1/2 of the aquarium water volume and use only METHYLENE BLUE.

After the treatment is finished, put the aquarium equipment into operation and add “ALOE GEL”. Two days later, it is possible to add “BIOFILTR” and “START+” in order to restore biological balance in the tank. It is not necessary to change water after the treatment, if it is within specifications.

CAUTION:

It may happen that an aquarist deliberately or accidentally increases the therapeutic dose. Then the fish which are not sensitive to heavy metals will survive the treatment without problems, and the plants will not indicate a problem either. However, a problem may arise if there are snails in the tank (ramshorns, usually introduced together with plants, or “spindle snails” living in the bottom sand). An inadequate dose of OIDIMOL could kill these snails and their decomposing bodies could biologically deteriorate the aquarium water. There is a threat of acute poisoning: the fish would die, richly coloured and with open mouths. Therefore, you must pay attention to this fact after the application of the agent – if there are any dead snails, remove as many of their dead bodies as posssible. This is especially important in small tanks with a volume up to 50 litres.

The agent is sold in a special container which prevents photodecomposition. However, store the product in a cool dark place and always out of the reach of children!

Observe basic hygienic rules when using this product. Do not eat, drink or smoke. When the agent comes into contact with mucous membranes, seek medical advice.
