Additional Information

This product is used for preventive disinfection of aquarium water. Especially when you use live or frozen food (tubificid worms, bloodworms, daphnia etc.), you may introduce undesirable bacteria and diseases into your aquarium. Also when you purchase new fish, transport fish, separate spawn or catch fish, fish skin is often injured and protective mucus is disrupted, so that the fish are liable to attacks of parasites, fungi and various skin diseases.

This product is very popular among professional aquarists, as it is born very well by a clear majority of aquarium fish. It does not contain formol, so it has a very low toxicity. It does not have a reduction effect, so it is suitable for treating spawn, fingerlings, adolescent fish and for their manipulation. PREVENT has been successfully used by breeders of more or less fragile and little domesticated “bottom fish”, such as various species of Ancistrus, Peckoltia, Loricaria and Sturisoma.

It is also recommended to dose this disinfecting agent directly into vessels for the import of live food. In higher concentrations, it can be used to disinfect fishing nets and aquarium technologies. When used in decorative tanks of the Dutch type (a tank used primarily to grow plants, where fish are only complementary) it does not harm aquarium plants, though with higher concentration it may temporarily suspend their growth. After the agent is bound onto other organic matter in the tank, its effect is rapidly reduced and it does not affect the plants at all. It is not necessary to change aquarium water after the use of this agent if it had been changed previously or if it is within specifications (as regards pH, nitrite content, etc.). The water colouration will gradually disappear.

This agent has a bacteriostatic and disinfecting effect, it restricts the growth of mould fungi and algae. However, it has never been intended to suppress a specific health disorder.

If the treatment procedure by this moderately effective agent is not absolutely successful or when it is used improperly, the problem could recur or the invasive strains could develop resistance to it.

If you want to use this product for a curative bath, it must be long-term. On the 3rd, 6th and 9th day, add a one-third dose (of the original full dose), increase temperature to 28°C, turn the light off, do not filter, and provide intense air circulation. Do not feed the fish during the treatment.

If the contamination is not acute, it is very likely that you will be able to cure the fish using this agent, even though it is not specifically intended for this purpose. It is recommended to add another half-dose of “FMC” on the 12th day, without a previous change of water.

On the other hand, if the problem is not removed, do not use the same agent again, but use for instance a full dose of “FMC”.

After the treatment is finished, it is recommended to use “BIOFILTR” and “START+” in order to restore biological balance in the tank

The product may stain clothes!

The agent is sold in a special container which prevents photodecomposition. However, store the product in a cool dark place and always out of the reach of children!

Observe basic hygienic rules when using this product. Do not eat, drink or smoke. When the agent comes into contact with mucous membranes, seek medical advice.
